the history of people book
2.1.4 - 01/1999
Fixed major bug where double-clicking a file when another is already open would produce double groups and empty entries.
When importing, line feeds that are represented by ASCII character 11 are now replaced by character 13.
"Open…" menu item is now enabled.
Support for Navigation Services (New dialog boxes in MacOS 8.5 or higher).
Compiled using REALBasic 1.1, therefore potential bugs removed.
2.1.3 - Internal release
2.1.2 - Internal release
2.1.1 - 01/1999
Contact labels now show "Phone 1","Phone 2", "Phone 3", "Phone 4", "Email" and "Web" by default.
Replaced "Preferences" menu item and window by a submenu called "Dialling Port".
"Copy Details" menu item is now disabled when no person is selected.
2.1.0 - 12/1998
Fixed bug where after creating a person within a group, that person would not appear in that group afterwards in simple group mode. The person could also not be taken out of that group.
Added the option to choose the modem or printer port for dialling.
Replaced the phone and email fields by 6 context-sensitive fields (the buttons next to the fields dial, create a message or go to a web page, depending on the type of number/address.)
Improved exporting by drag & drop.
Pressing a key now jumps to the next person beginning with that letter as in version 1 (something I forgot in 2.0.0).
Smaller window to fit on 512x385 pixel displays.
Window resizable in both dimensions.
Other minor interface improvements.
2.0.0 - 10/1998
Completely reprogrammed, therefore much better performance.
Redesigned the interface.
Added search feature.
Added import feature.
Added reverting of files.
Added "comment" field.
Added "company" column.
Added "last file" button in control window.
Can create email and dial phone numbers.
Flexible sorting allows sorting by first, last or company name.
People can now belong to more than one group.
Editing of groups now integrated in main window.
Supports exporting by drag and drop.
Resizable main window.
Faster file opening.
Smaller files.
Separate 68K and PPC releases.
1.0.1 - 7/1998
Fixed a bug where the detail fields and the "remove" button would stay enabled after removing a person. Could lead to an error, crashing the app.
Included only 68K code, to minimize the size of the app. This shouldn't influence the performance on a power macintosh.
Recompiled the application using a newer release of "REAL Basic", which should eliminate some possible bugs (version 1.0.0 was compiled using a developer release).
1.0.0 - 6/1998
Initial release.
planned

No delay when opening or closing files.
Single listbox for editing groups and assigning groups to people.
Separately resizable window parts.
Customizable columns for people listbox.
Listbox for phone/email/URL instead of 6 fields.
Password protection for files.
Full MacOS 8 savvy.
Dialling via PCMCIA modem cards and USB.
Carbon-compatibility (MacOS X).
known problems
When you drag a group to a Finder folder that already contains an export file of that group, you have to switch to the Finder and confirm that you wish to replace the existing file.
When you double-click a file shortly after closing it, the Finder brings an error -110. Wait a few seconds before re-opening the file. This problem will be eliminated in version 3.
People book might crash when using large files. That is because the amount of memory people book uses depends on the number of people in the file. Try assigning more memory to the application. This problem will be eliminated in version 3.
